This week we've welcomed a new member to the team. Chandni Unka has just completed a degree in Media & Cultural Studies at the University of Wolverhampton. Chandni has joined us for an internship as a PR Account Executive and we thought we'd ask her a few questions to get to know her better. We'll catch up with Chandni again at the end of her internship and see how she found the experience at S&U.
- Why did you want to do an internship?
I decided to do an internship as I felt that it would help me to gain the experience that I was unable to get whilst at university and by taking some basic knowledge with me, it would help me grow further.
- Have you always wanted to work in the Advertising/PR industry?
I hadn’t really thought about it in that sense, but advertising always stood out to me due to having some prior knowledge about advertising platforms.
- Do you feel like your degree has prepared you for the world of work?
I feel that it has and it hasn’t. I say this because most of what I learnt whilst at University would be able to aid me in my writing skills. However when looking at this in terms of working, I was not able to get any real experience in the media field, therefore it’s pretty much a whole new world.
- What do you hope to achieve from the internship?
From this internship, I hope to gain as much knowledge and experience as I can by continuing to learn new things each day, which will hopefully help me to work my way up the career ladder.
- Do you have any concerns about the internship?
Not really, I feel that I have great support from everyone at Shaw & Underwood and having some familiarity with many of the social media platforms that projects may be based on is helpful, so I’m not completely thrown into the deep end. My first impressions are that everyone seems lovely and welcoming, which has allowed me to feel as ease whilst settling into a new environment .
